Philosophy and Approach: I believe everyone can improve on health.  I have a more holistic approach to health, personally, believing there is no mind-body dichotomy.  In the counseling relationship, I use Gestalt techniques to build awareness in the present moment, and I also use CBT techniques to identify and correct maladaptive thinking habits.  I am very connected in the health community locally, so I collaborate with other licensed professionals, including dieticians, mobility specialists and personal trainers to optimize the client’s entire human system.  I do all of these things from a strong base in research and truly believe this is the future of the counseling and preventative health fields.

Formal Education and Training: I hold a Master’s of Science in Mental Health Counseling degree from Walden University, which is a CACREP accredited program.  The course work is very comprehensive and focuses on counseling technique and cultural competence.  I also have certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from The University of South Carolina online program.  I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor, having completed the National Counselor Exam, the national standard for counselors seeking licensure.
